MISTRESS BY MARRIAGE Blog Tour: Interview and Giveaway with Maggie Robinson

Thank you so much for having me here! The title of this lovely blog is especially suitable for my latest release, Mistress by Marriage (Brava, September 2011). Heroine Caroline Christie has a serious secret, one that she thinks makes her highly unlovable. So when she picks Lord Edward Christie out of a line-up of eligible men, it’s quite deliberate. She doesn’t think Edward will ever show any emotion—he’s proper, even priggish. The Christie family is known for being cold and controlled. Everything has to be “just so” for Edward, but Caroline soon discovers she doesn’t have a bit of “so” in her. Their marriage proves to be a disaster everywhere but the bedroom.

“Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it” has never been so apt. Caroline and Edward regret that they got what they wanted and simply don’t know what to do with each other. All Caro’s attempts to fit into Edward’s rigid, regimented life fail spectacularly. And Edward? He feels like he’s married to an ever-erupting volcano. But even though he’s been burned, he cannot stay away.

Marital troubles are not the usual romance fare. Usually we close the book before the hero and heroine have to struggle with the reality of everyday relationships. You know, “You left the toilet seat up” sort of stuff. In this case, our Regency England chamber pot may have been left uncovered. J But I had tremendous fun (yes, the book is quite funny in spots) getting Edward to unbend and Caro to recognize her own worth so they could finally get their HEA. Author Theresa Romain calls the book “hot and hilarious.” I’ll take it.

I seem to be all about the secrets, because my novella “To Match a Thief” in Improper Gentlemen (Brava, August 2011) is loaded with them too. The hero Sir Simon Keith used to be a thief. What would society say if they knew he sprang from the Edinburgh slums? The heroine Lucy Dellamar is London’s most fabled courtesan…except she hasn’t made love to anyone in thirteen years. And her protector Lord Percy Ferguson? He’s very, very fond of Lucy’s hats. And dresses. And butler. They’ve gotten really good at keeping their secrets from the world.

MISTRESS BY MARRIAGE

Too late for cold feet

Baron Edward Christie prided himself on his reputation for even temperament and reserve. That was before he met Caroline Parker. Wedding a scandalous beauty by special license days after they met did not inspire respect for his sangfroid. Moving her to a notorious lovebirds’ nest as punishment for her flighty nature was perhaps also a blow. And of course talk has gotten out of his irresistible clandestine visits. Christie must put his wife aside—if only he can get her out of his blood first.

Too hot to refuse

Caroline Parker was prepared to hear the worst: that her husband had determined to divorce her, spare them both the torture of passion they can neither tame nor escape. But his plan is wickeder than any she’s ever heard. Life as his wife is suffocating. But she cannot resist becoming her own husband’s mistress…

 IMPROPER GENTLEMEN

“To Match a Thief” by Maggie Robinson

Ex-pickpocket Sir Simon Keith can now afford the best of everything. But London’s most-desired courtesan is his lost love Lucy. Now Simon will need his wits and his considerably large…wiles to win his way back into her bed—and into her heart.

“Hair Trigger Palace” by Diane Whiteside

He rules Colorado’s most glittering gambling palace. Justin Talbot never does something for nothing. If daring Boston aristocrat Charlotte Morland needs his protection from a dangerous enemy, he’ll make her business his pleasure…

“A Knack for Trouble” by Mia Marlowe

Lord Aidan Stonemere didn’t go from prison to a title by playing by society’s rules. If he wants something, he takes it. Rosalinde Burke didn’t object to being taken. Once. To keep her from marrying a proper viscount, Aidan will do whatever it takes to remind her how deliciously good being improper feels…

  5. I am very good at keeping secrets. Weather they are my own or someone elses. I would not want someone telling mine, so I would not do it to someone else. I had a friend that told one of my secrets and people got upset. I would never do that to another friend. I have heard some pretty good secrets, but if I told you then I would be betraying someone and would not want to do that.
Maggie is a new author for me and would love to win and read this book. I haave heard about this book and it sounds great and would love to have it, so please choose me for the giveaway. Thanks for the chance to win.

  8. No juicy secrets here. That I can think of. But I spilled a secret once about, oh, 30 years ago, and no one has let me forget it still! LOL My dad bought my mom a pair of boots for Christmas. He had asked me to help him pick them out since he thought I would know better. I was so excited about it. And when Christmas morning came, my whole big family, we were all opening and noisy. But it suddenly got very quiet at the exact second that I said to mom, "Open your boots!" LOL I am great at keeping secrets! Really, I am!!! But that one just got away from me! LOL At any given moment, one of my family may shout out, "Open your boots!" But I really can keep a secret! LOL

  20. Wow! So many comments. Just got back from shopping for my grandchildren. When my kids were little,I used to consolidate bags so my husband wouldn't know how much I'd bought and swore them to secrecy. Sometimes we left stuff in the car to bring in later.I was so sneaky, but with 4 kids they needed a lot of stuff. They all turned out honest, thank goodness. :)

  21. I'm very good at keeping secrets, seems like a lot of friends and co-workers feel the same way, I'm being told things left and right, sometimes it's hard to keep them straight in my head, but as far as I know I have never divulged a secret that was told to me.

  22. I can keep a secret IF I can get through the first 24 hours of knowing it. LOL When it's fresh and burning in my brain, I so want to tell, especially if it's a really cool gift I've gotten for someone.

I SOOOO want to be included in this drawing. I LOVED Mistress by Mistake.

  24. I'm fairly good at keeping secrets, but I hate having to do so. They feel like they just want to burst out of me. I guess the most shocking one I ever learned was that a close friend was having an affair. I did tell my husband because I knew he wouldn't really care and he's good at keeping secrets, but I never did tell anyone else.

Both books sound great and I'd love to win either one of them.

I can't wait to read both of these books. I've had them both on my wish list for months now.

  26. Hi Maggie,

I'm very good at keeping secrets. My best friend told me years ago (after we had been friends for 8 years) that her children were adopted. She asked me not to tell anwybody, which I didn't but, I was surprised about this.

Then, several years later, she me that she had a grandson who was two years old. Again, I was very surprised. She asked me not to tell anybody, so I never did. I was hurt though that I was her "best friend" but she'd waited two years to tell me about her grandson. I've never told anybody that her sons were adopted and that she had a grandson. So, you see, I'm very good at keeping secrets. Of course, I've now spilled them here but, as nobody knows her or me here, it's okay.

Thank you for another opportunity to win one of your books. I've read Improper Gentlemen which I loved.

I do love the cover art on the front of your "Mistress" books.

  28. When I was younger I had trouble keeping secrets, but the older I've grown, and the more responsibilities I had at work, I've learned to keep my mouth shut about a lot of information I've been told. I love getting to know stuff that others don't so it's worth it.
I guess the most surprising secret I've ever found out was that the company I worked for was going to be sold.

  30. I'm very good at keeping secrets. Can't think of any secrets that I remember hearing, though - must mean my friends are good at keeping them, too! Oh - just saw Barbara's comment. I had that happen to me, too. Hired on with a company and about a month later was told they had been sold.

I've heard good things about Mistress by Marriage and would love to read - thanks for the chance to win it.

  31. I'm not too bad about keeping secrets -- it depends in part the secret (how serious, personal, etc). I would often share things w/ my mom about friends/work since she didn't really know the people involved or anyone they would know.

  33. It depends on the secret. Some secrets should not be kept, others should. If it is one that should be kept, I have no problems keeping it. Although I try to not have secrets cause then I feel dishonest. But I guess everyone has some secret/private things that they don't want everyone to know.
