Secrets on Lake Drive Book Tour: Interview and Giveaway with Tina Martin

Monica’s life is certainly no fairytale. She’s failed at a relationship, at being a mother and at twenty-four, teaching is her only passion. She singles out Sean Beauvais, one of her student’s fathers – at a parent teacher conference, and schools him about taking care of his son. Their exchange gets heated, but later, Sean realizes that he can use Monica’s passion to his advantage; offering her a high-paying summer job being his son’s live-in babysitter.
Monica knows the rumors about Sean and his womanizing ways, but against her better judgment, she accepts his offer. She convinces herself that she has enough willpower to avoid her new, thirty-two year old sexy, summer boss – his chiseled chest, pretty green eyes and charm that just won’t quit. But after only a few weeks in his crib, Monica finds it a struggle to keep her eyes off of Sean. Can she handle staying focused on her babysitting gig for three months without being swept off of her feet by Milwaukee’s finest? Or is Sean’s game too much for the young, conservative teacher to handle?
Having been heartbroken in the past, Monica is reluctant to play this dangerous game with a confirmed heartbreaker. But it’s what she doesn’t know about Sean that she should be concerned about...

Welcome to Book of Secrets, Tina!

Please tell us about your book, Secrets On Lake Drive.

Secrets On Lake Drive is a story of Monica Smith and Sean Beauvais; two people who are seemingly rivals but they may be just what the other needs to have a happy, meaningful and successful life. It’s a novel based on the secrets each person carries, and in the end, those secrets may hold them together or drive them further apart, forever.

Who is your biggest supporter?
My husband is my biggest supporter. He encourages me to keep writing and pursuing my passion. I’m so fortunate to have him on my side.
Do you have any rituals you follow when finishing a piece of work?
Maybe a celebration dance…or a good stretch, and then, it’s on to the next one…
What do you like to do for fun?
I used to rollerblade a lot, so I want to get back into that in 2011. I love bike riding, hiking, swimming, shopping and literary events.
Do you have any advice for writers or readers?
Yes. Never give up and believe in yourself. Expect rejection and allow it to make you stronger.
What do you feel is your biggest strength?
My biggest strength is my ability to create tension between characters. Readers will actually be able to feel the passion, love and disappointments.
What you think readers will like best about this book?
Several things. I think readers will fall in love with the chemistry between Monica and Sean. They will also admire Monica for not giving up in her quest for true love and happiness, no matter the cost. She reinforces the reminder in all of us that we should never ‘settle’ when it comes to love but we should believe and know in our hearts when love is pure. We deserve that much.
What are you currently working on?
Well, I’m happy to announce that my next novel Another Man’s Treasure is being released March 15, 2011. Another Man’s Treasure, a powerful and emotional story of yearning for the love from a person who doesn’t know you exist – well, that is until someone else takes an interest in you. Also, I just finished a short story and finished my third novel that should be available later year.
How can readers contact you?
You can visit my website http://www.tinamartinbooks.com/. Also, follow me on my blog (and subscribe!) at http://ibetterfindyourlove.blogspot.com/. You can email me at tina@tinamartinbooks.com.

Cynthia Eden Blog Tour for Deadly Heat and Deadly Lies: Interview and Giveaway

Six months after her lover died in an arsonist's blaze, firefighter Lora Spade calls in the FBI's elite Serial Services Division to track the elusive killer. When Special Agent Kenton Lake is lured into a violent inferno, Lora pulls him to safety and is stunned - not by the fire, but by her own searing attraction to Kent. For the first time in months, she longs for something other than vengeance.

Kenton's interest in Lora should be purely professional. But one fleeting kiss and he can't get her out of his mind. Her combination of strength and vulnerability makes him want to protect her, and that means solving this case - and fast. For even the passion igniting between them can't hide a terrifying truth: Lora is the next target in a murderer's sadistic, fiery game.
oOoOoOo
FBI Special Agent Samantha Kennedy is haunted by memories of the serial killer who abducted her. To keep the darkness at bay, she pretends to be a different, more confident woman. This Samantha doesn't fear every unknown face. So she throws caution to the wind and shares a night of unbridled passion with a handsome stranger.

One night isn't enough for successful entrepreneur Max Ridgeway. He wants more of the sexy, smart, mysterious woman who slipped away before dawn. When they meet again, their attraction is undeniable-until his stepbrother goes missing, and Max realizes that Samantha isn't who she seems. But they must trust each other to trap a ring of bloodthirsty kidnappers before the nightmares that terrorize Sam become irrevocably real.
oOoOoOo

Welcome to this stop on Cynthia Eden's Blog Tour!

Thank you for being here today, Cynthia!

1. Please tell us a little about your Deadly series, and what's in store for readers in your two upcoming releases.

My Deadly series focuses on the FBI—or, more specifically, on my Serial Services Division (the SSD). The SSD is a branch of the FBI that has been created to track and apprehend serials—arsonists, kidnappers, and killers.

DEADLY HEAT is the second book in my Deadly series, and in this book, FBI Special Agent Kenton Lake teams up with fire fighter Lora Spade—their mission is to stop the Phoenix arsonist, before he comes after them.

In DEADLY LIES, Special Agent Samantha Kennedy is trying to put her life back on track after a brutal attack. She thinks that she has finally found a bit of safety and security in her new relationship with Max. Samantha certainly never expects to find her new lover targeted by a killer.

2. Your heroines Lora Spade, a firefighter, and Samantha Kennedy, a special agent for the FBI, sound like very brave, tough women. Do you think a heroine who is too strong might overshadow the hero?

I love strong heroines. I don’t think that a strong heroine will overshadow the hero; instead, I think it is an author’s job to write a hero who is just as strong as the heroine. Strength can come in many forms—physical strength, emotional strength, or intellectual strength. I like for my characters to be strong in different ways so that they can balance each other in the book.

3. What is your favorite part of writing Romantic Suspense?

I love being able to add darker aspects to the books. With romantic suspense, readers expect death and danger—they also expect twists and turns. Writing these tales allows me to push my imagination, and I do love that push!

4. Is there a genre outside of romance that you would like to write?

One day, I’d love to try my hand at writing horror. What can I say? I guess I have a fascination with monsters, both the human and non-human variety.

5. Who is your biggest supporter?

My husband is a great supporter. He’s always encouraged my love of writing. He is also great to proof-read my work. It’s always nice to have another pair of eyes checking a manuscript!

Thanks so much for interviewing me. It's been a pleasure!

My Immortal Assassin Blog Tour: Interview and Giveaway with Carolyn Jewel

Grayson Spencer is hellbent on killing the dark mage who destroyed her life. But when her attempt fails, she is forced to turn to Durian, a feared demon and expert assassin. Newly armed with powerful magic she's barely able to control, she'll do whatever it takes to complete her mission--even surrender to a dangerous fiend whose eyes promise unimaginable pleasure.

Sworn to protect all mages, Durian can't let Gray threaten the uneasy peace among demons, humans, and mages. So he proposes a deal: He'll train Gray to master her gift if she'll bind herself magically to him, submitting to his control. As Gray's powers intensify, so too does Durian's hunger for this fierce, irresistible woman. When the dark mage makes a final play for Gray, will the passion she and Durian share be the key to their survival or the seed of their destruction?
oOoOoOo

Welcome to this stop on Carolyn Jewel's
My Immortal Assassin Blog Tour!

Thank you for being with us today, Carolyn!

1. Please share some juicy details about Durian, the hero of your latest book My Immortal Assassin.

Durian is an assassin for the demon warlord Nikodemus. It’s his job to enforce the rules against harming humans. He’s a scary guy that way. You don’t want him on your bad side.

2. My Immortal Assassin is the third book in your My Immortal Series. For those new to the series, please tell us the common thread that binds the books together?

By way of background, the series is set in a present day world with regular humans going about their lives. But it happens that there really are such beings as demons. People who can do magic came about as a matter of self-defense during the Dark Ages and into Medieval times when demons were wreaking havoc on human lives.

Since those times, demons have self-policed themselves, but the magic-using humans (the magekind) haven’t quite caught on to that. They’re still killing and enslaving demons in the name of protecting regular humans. That’s not something demons care for, as you can imagine. There’s a faction of the demonkind who feel they’d be justified in going back to the old ways. A demon warlord named Nikodemus is working to prevent that. But it’s not easy trying to forge a peace.

3. You have an interesting post on your website called "Why Romance Novels Get No Respect." One of your concluding thoughts is that there is no excuse for heroines who are TSTL (Too Stupid To Live). What is your overall opinion of paranormal romance heroines? Are they more, less, or just as likely to fall into the TSTL category when compared to heroines of other subgenres?

I’ll answer your question a little bit backward and say that the TSTL heroine isn’t a genre problem, it’s an author problem. I’ve read literary novels with TSTL heroines. After all, it’s the author who takes mental shortcuts that put a TSTL heroine on the page. This is by no means limited to or more prevalent in Romance.

My point, in that article, was that Romance gets judged by the weakest stories, and all the many examples to the contrary are ignored. Critics behave as if there are no beautifully-written Romance novels and imply that the genre itself requires these ridiculous cliches. They conveniently forget that the flaws they point out exist in every other category of writing. In that article I was saying, as a concluding matter, that since Romance is being held to what amounts to a higher standard, authors need to be even more careful not to get lazy. It’s not fair, but that’s the reality.

My overall opinion of Romance heroines is that there are relatively few TSTL heroines, with the incidences decreasing all the time. That’s true of paranormal heroines as well. The level of writing required to get published is high. Social stereotypes that weren’t even questioned 20 years ago have been pretty well discredited in society. I think Romance readers (and you might as well substitute “readers”) are pretty sophisticated that way. They recognize lazy writing when they read it and they call writers on it when it happens.

4. I read in your author bio that you are a database administrator. Do you find your thoughts drifting to seductive romance heroes and their adventures during the day? How do you balance your two careers as a DBA and a writer?

From everything I’ve heard, most writers are in my situation, that is, holding down a full-time job and writing. Many of us are also raising families. Something has to give, and for me, it’s television. The only TV show I watch is True Blood. Other than that, I haven’t watched TV in over twenty years. I make sure I’m prepared and able to write just about anywhere. I always have a notebook and pen with me, and I have a laptop. I often work on my lunch hour or when waiting at sports practices and the like.

5. What do you do to unwind and relax?

Read or sleep. That’s pretty much it.

Review: NORTHERN EXPOSURE

By Jennifer LaBrecque
Blurb:
Escaping the corporate rat race was the best thing Dalton Saunders ever did. Now he's living life at a breakneck speed as an Alaskan bush pilot, doing what he wants, when he wants. There's no adventure he hasn't experienced….

Until Dr. Skye Shanahan rolls into town.

Skye Shanahan isn't quite sure how she ended up in Good Riddance. Sure, she needed some time to evaluate where her life was heading, but this is ridiculous. Luckily, she's only here for two weeks. She can handle it until then.

What she wants to handle, though, is Dalton. The sexy pilot has her feeling out of her element…and desperate to get into his bed. And once there, she's not inclined to leave.

But when the time comes, will she be able to let go?
oOoOoOo

The philosophy of Good Riddance, Alaska: Good Riddance is where you leave behind whatever troubles you.  That is exactly what Dalton Saunders did eight years ago.  He walked away from his humdrum life as a CPA and his cheating fiancee for adventure as a bush pilot in a tiny Alaskan town.  His new carefree, no attachments lifestyle seemed perfect until the smart and beautiful Dr. Skye Shanahan came into town and showed him what he had been missing.  Skye meant for her stay in Good Riddance to be a brief two-week assignment as the town's substitute doctor while their regular physician was on vacation.  Though unhappy at the direction her life had taken back home in Atlanta, Skye can not believe someone would just up and move to the middle of nowhere and start over.  That is until the ruggedly handsome and charming Dalton makes her question what is truly important and whether she is strong enough to leave her troubles behind as well.

Northern Exposure was a sweet romance filled with a cast of delightfully quirky characters.  I loved the idea of a tiny town in Alaska being a place to start fresh, even for someone like the prim and proper city girl, Dr. Skye Shanahan.  There is great chemistry between Dalton and Skye from the moment they meet.  Of course, it begins as a love/hate relationship.  Skye, the sensible doctor, is certain that an untamed Alaskan frontiersman is wrong for her, and Dalton feels the same way.   Little do they know they have more in common than what's on the surface.  But, their sexual tension is intense!  I had to laugh at the snarky banter between them.  I found Dalton completely irresistible!  Once Skye did some soul searching and realized what was missing from her life, she did too.  (Secluded lakeside cabin in the Alaskan wilderness + Dalton = Bliss)  Northern Exposure is a quick and fun read.  It ended with a bit of a cliff hanger involving the town's displaced southern belle mayor, so I'm excited to see what happens in the next book!

Up next in the Alaskan Heat series:

Sexy Short Story Review: THE WARLORD WANTS FOREVER

Nikolai Wroth, once a ruthless human warlord in the 1700s and now a general in the rebel vampire army, needs to find his Bride, the one woman who can render him truly alive. As a turned human, he doesn’t enjoy a heartbeat or breaths and is consequently weaker than fully blooded vampires. He wants his Bride for the power she will bring him and can hardly believe it when his heart beats for Myst the Coveted, a mad, fey, mythological creature.

Myst is known throughout the world as the most beautiful Valkyrie, part chillingly fierce warrior, part beguiling seductress who can “make you want her even as she’s killing you.” She has devoted her life to protecting an ancient, powerful jewel and to fighting the vampires, and she now sees a way to torment one—for with Wroth’s heartbeat comes consuming sexual desire that can only be slaked by her.

She eludes him for five years, but he has finally chased her to ground and stolen the jewel which commands her, giving him absolute power over her. While he possesses it, he can make her do anything, and he plans to in order for her to experience first hand the agonizing, unending lust she’d purposely subjected him to for half a decade. Yet when Wroth realizes he wants more from her and frees her, will she come back to him?
(Blurb from Kresley Cole's website.)

oOoOoOo

The Warlord Wants Forever is an exciting beginning to Kresley Cole's Immortals After Dark series.  This short story first appeared in the anthology Playing Easy to Get.  (The blurb above gives an excellent plot summary.)  The story focuses on the very passionate yet volatile relationship between Myst, a Valkyrie warrior, and Wroth, a general in the vampire army.  Though mortal enemies, Wroth discovers that Myst is his Bride, the one who will give him great power once they bond, and he will stop at nothing to possess her.  Myst, however, has no intension of submitting to a beastly vampire.  Much of the sexual relationship between Wroth and Myst would be considered dubious consent or forced seduction.  Personally, I enjoy the "bodice ripper" theme, though I know many readers are turned off by it.  The sex is scorching hot, but it is also aggressive and somewhat cruel at times.  Don't worry; I never felt like Wroth crossed the line of violence.  He used great self-control when dealing with Myst, and he turned out to be the perfect alpha hero.

The Warlord Wants Forever is a solid introduction to the world of the Immortals, in particular the history of the Valkyrie sisters.  Often times short stories are too rushed and gloss over important details, but I think this is a perfectly paced, well-crafted story.  The Valkyrie are a group of sharp-tongued, kick-ass warriors, and I loved them!  It appears they will be the foundation of the series.  We're also introduced to some of the other Lore creatures that we'll see in future books.  If you've read the Immortals After Dark but missed this one, I highly recommend giving it a read!

Sins of a Highland Devil Blog Tour and Giveaway

Welcome to this stop on Sue-Ellen Welfonder's Sins of a Highland Devil Blog Tour!

The first book in the Highland Warriors trilogy, in which three heroes make a pact to insure that a rival clan does not take over their Glen of Many Legends. At the same time, three women plot to marry these heroes to insure peace.

In SINS OF A HIGHLAND DEVIL, James Cameron is concerned when the King's decree states all three neighboring clans must have a battle to the death in order to lay official claim to the scared Glen of Many Legends. James attempts to make a pact with the heads of the other clans to fight this decree. But he ends up fighting his own fierce desire when coming head-to-head with Lady Catriona of the opposing MacDonald clan, who has her own plan for peace.

About the Author: Sue-Ellen Welfonder is a card-carrying Scotophile whose burning wish to make frequent (free) trips to the land of her dreams led her to a twenty year career with the airlines.  Bi-lingual, she flew international all those years, working her flights as foreign language speaker.  Her flying career allowed her to see the world, but it was always to Scotland that she returned.

Now a full-time writer, she’s quick to admit that she much prefers wielding a pen to pushing tea and coffee.  She spent fifteen years living in Europe and used that time to explore as many castle ruins, medieval abbeys, and stone circles as possible.  Anything ancient, crumbling, or lichened caught her eye.  She makes annual visits to Scotland, insisting they are a necessity as each trip gives her inspiration for new books.

Proud of her own Hebridean ancestry, she belongs to two clan societies: the MacFie Clan Society and the Clan MacAlpine Society.  In addition to Scotland, her greatest passions are medieval history, the paranormal, and dogs.  She never watches television, loves haggis, and writes at a four-hundred-and-fifty year old desk that once stood in a Bavarian castle.
Sue-Ellen is married and currently resides with her husband and Jack Russell Terrier in Florida.  Readers can learn more about her and the world of her books at: http://www.welfonder.com/.

The Glen of Many Legends is a beautiful, mystical place, and three rival Highland clans lay claim to its ownership.  Tired of the constant feuding between the Camerons, MacDonalds and Mackintoshes, King Robert orders a battle to the death to decide the fate of the glen.  The clan with the last man standing (or most men standing) at the battle's conclusion wins control of the land.  If the clans forfeit the fight, then all three are banished forever from the glen.  Determined not to have outsiders take the glen, the three leaders devise a plan to keep it in their hands, while their sisters secretly concoct a plan of their own to bring peace between the clans.

The romance in this story is between James, the leader of the Camerons, and Catriona MacDonald, the sister of a rival laird.  As members of feuding clans, they've spent years both hating and lusting after each other.  While I love volatile relationships like that, James' and Catriona's stubbornness over getting together when on a very long time!  Maybe it was just that their desire for each other wasn't as convincing as I'd have liked.  I loved Catriona.  She was strong, clever and spirited.  I wanted James to be more of the "devil" that he was labeled to be.  He seemed way too tame to be a devil!

Two things that really stood out for me in this book:

(1) The glen itself.  The author described The Glen of Many Legends so beautifully!  Complete with hills of heather, forests, moors, and a rugged coastline, the place sounded like it was worth fighting for.  The MacDonald Clan's Blackshore Castle sat on an island with a stone causeway to shore.  At high tide the residents were cut off from shore except by boat.  Castle Nought, home of the Mackintosh Clan was located in the harsh, hilly northern terrain surrounded by Dreagan Stones - mysterious rocks thought to change into dragons.  I can understand why all three clans wanted to claim it as their own.

(2) The paranormal elements.  I wasn't expecting the story to have a paranormal twist!  I was pleasantly surprised.  There is a beautiful yet melancholy ghost named Scandia, who haunts the glen for mysterious reasons.  It's thought that spotting her is an omen of doom, but she's just searching for her happily ever after.  There's also Gorm and Grizel, two magical beings who practice the Old Ways.  They are the Maker of Dreams and spiritual advisers to the Cameron chieftains.  The paranormals were my favorite characters.  I'm always drawn to them.

The next book in the series is Temptation of a Highland Scoundrel set for release in August 2011.  I'm excited about book two because it's the story of Kendrew Mackintosh (my favorite of the men) and the stone dragons surrounding his castle.

Review: GOODNIGHT TWEETHEART

By Teresa Medeiros
Abigail Donovan has a lot of stuff she should be doing. Namely writing her next novel. A bestselling author who is still recovering from a near Pulitzer Prize win and the heady success that follows Oprah’s stamp of approval, she is stuck at Chapter Five and losing confidence daily. But when her publicist signs her up for a Twitter account, she’s intrigued. What’s all the fuss?

Taken under the wing of one of her Twitter followers, “MarkBaynard" - a quick witted, quick-typing professor on sabbatical - Abby finds it easy to put words out into the world 140 characters at a time. And once she gets a handle on tweets, retweets, direct messages, hashtags, and trends, she starts to feel unblocked in writing and in life. After all, why should she be spending hours in her apartment staring at her TweetDeck and fretting about her stalled career when Mark is out there traveling the world and living? Or is he?

Abby Donovan is a down-on-her-luck author with a severe case of writer's block.  The pressure of repeating the success of her debut novel is simply overwhelming.  She's almost certain the author she once was - an Oprah Book Club pick and Pulitzer Prize nominee - is gone forever.  Lonely and defeated, Abby finds hope and inspiration in an unlikely place.  Twitter.  There she meets Mark Baynard, a charming and funny professor on sabbatical who spends his time traveling around Europe.

Abby and Mark form an instant connection, and they engage in an online love affair over a few months.  Mark becomes the muse Abby needs to write again.  But when she discovers that Mark has not been entirely truthful with her, Abby feels like yet another person in her life has betrayed her.  Can she accept his reason for the deception and find forgiveness in her heart when she realizes just how important Mark has become to her?

I am a longtime fan of Teresa Medeiros' historical romances, and when I heard about this book I was curious to see her take on a contemporary love story.  Goodnight Tweetheart exceeded my expectations!  With such a whimsical cover I did not expect the emotional depth of this story.  I think I read the last third of the book with a lump in my throat!  My heart went out to both characters, two lost and lonely individuals who find each other by chance on Twitter.  Most of the story is cleverly told through the "tweets" between Mark and Abby.  The story begins with Mark helping Abby, a "Twitter virgin," figure out the ins and outs of tweeting.  Their messages are full of fun pop culture references to Lost, Glee and many others.

Abby soon finds a kindred soul in Mark, and she begins sharing the scary parts of her life, like her unstable writing career and losing her father.  Mark opens up about dark parts of his past as well.  Abby and Mark were such multi-dimentional and compelling characters who were so well suited for each other.  A little geeky.  Somewhat flawed.  Quite a bit lonely.  I loved them both!  As the story progresses, we learn that Mark is not all that that he seems.  I admit that I was begging Abby to forgive him!  Goonight Tweetheart is an engrossing story complete with an emotional ending.

Goodnight Tweetheart is a witty and touching modern day love story.  I highly recommend it to fans of contemporary romance and women's fiction.  Be prepared to laugh and love with Mark and Abby, but be sure to have the tissues ready too.
